Clients find it helpful to talk...
Life can be so busy and relentless. Many people struggle with the demands of daily life and the problems that can pose. My client work includes working with bereavement, anxiety, addiction, low self-esteem/ self-worth and boundary issues. Sometimes just sitting talking in a quiet space can make a world of difference.
Through a combination of four years training and much life experience, I find it's quite a natural thing for me to step into the client's shoes and experience their world. The empathy and congruence that flows from this can have great benefits for healing and the therapeutic relationship.
I like to work Humanistically - this means treating the body and mind as a whole. This can be useful for reaching your full potential by working with the client's thoughts and feelings and how this may affect their bodily well-being.
Many clients find Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) beneficial for negative thinking and negative self-talk. I also use CBT for working with addiction, bereavement, anxiety and low self-esteem. It's very much rooted in the client's here and now.
I also use psychodynamic techniques to explore issues from the past that can still prove problematic today. At times the presenting issue can be in the unconscious mind and through taking time to build a therapeutic relationship and revisiting the past we can bring to the fore the crux of the problem. This can be useful for clients who experience a high level of distress.
